Understanding the significance of history in integration courses for migrants and refugees is crucial for adult education professionals. To address this need and raise awareness of the importance of including history teaching in the integration courses available to migrants and refugees, and to provide educators with practical advice and guidance on how to teach history in an impactful and interesting way, we have prepared the Practical Guidelines for Adult Educators.

Creating the Guidelines: A Collaborative Effort

In February, we organized two transnational workshops aimed at creating a practical, user-oriented guide to help trainers and adult educators better integrate history education into their courses. These workshops brought together historians, migration professionals, and educational experts. Their participation and insights have been invaluable in crafting the document we are now presenting.

The Practical Guidelines for Adult Educators provide a comprehensive overview of how to integrate immigrants and refugees within the History Box countries. Key components include:

• Existing Practices: Insight into current methods of incorporating history in integration courses.
• Reflection Points: Thought-provoking aspects for including history in the integration process.
• Role of Memory: Information on the importance of both collective and individual memory in history education.
• Useful Data: Additional relevant information and data to support the teaching process.

These guidelines will also form part of the Training Hub we are developing within the project’s framework, ensuring they are easily accessible and widely used.
